Who doesn't love a good story?
Stories have been the heartbeat of families & communities since the dawn of humanity. Storytellers in cultures all over the world, including our own, have entertained, educated, & sparked the imaginations of their audiences for thousands of years. Stories help bring us closer together, & enable us to better understand one another & the world around us. There is something magical about a well-told story which is undiminished even in the 21st century. Despite being a performer for most of my life, I'm still particularly moved by the way that people of all ages naturally respond to stories. I am a regular performer at local storytelling events, but my work has also taken me to International Storytelling Festivals! I regularly tell stories for the Armstrong Storytelling Trust. A love of archaeology and history, and my ongoing research into ancient landscapes and myth has led me to combine storytelling with research and musical performance, including the use of historical instruments.
My research has been published in Archaeology Ireland and by Trivent Publishing and I enjoy presenting to local historical societies, at literary events - outside of the usual storytelling venues! What people said:'Anne had the audience hooked on every note and every word with a magical mix of music, culture & heritage that none of us have had the joy to participate in before' 'Why couldn't my history lessons at school have been like this?' 'What a wonderful performance! |

This year I am writing a new show for performance inspired by the shared heritage of Ulster and Western Scotland. The work will highlight our important connections in Story, Music, and in the Landscape. This exciting new project (which has been supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland & the Department for Communities National Lottery Good Causes), will premiere in October 2026, and is currently under development. As part of the project I am sharing regular updates in a 'video diary' on my TikTok and Instagram channels @thatharperwoman 'Outstanding Storytelling' 'Simply beautiful telling' |
As well combining music, heritage and stories in performance, I also offer story-telling tours of the rich Bronte & Magennis Heritage around Rathfriland. This is result of years of research into the incredible history, mythology, and folklore of the area - & it's great fun. Find out more by clicking below.
