In 2024 I was fortunate enough to receive financial support which enabled me to purchase a truly beautiful instrument, my 'White Harp'.
The harp is Dusty Strings FH36 S, made of Maple wood, a beautiful pale-coloured wood which is renowned for its tone and resonance (Stradivarius used Maple!). My sincerest gratitude to the Arts Council & the Department for Communities for making the purchase possible. |
Language geeks may note that while the most commonly used word for harp in Irish is Cláirseach, I have chosen instead to use the (older) Irish word 'Cruit' which has Proto-Celtic origins. This word is suggestive of a round, perhaps pregnant belly shape, and it may have been used to describe a lyre rather than the triangular harp we usually see today. Cruit imay also share the same etymology as the word Cruithni/Cruthin who were early medieval inhabitants of Ulster.
